- Join a caravan group
An awesome part of caravanning is the community that comes with it. Being part of a group is a phenomenal feeling, especially when you’re not familiar with the country you’re visiting. You’ll save money on your travels, have access to valuable insider tips, and network with like-minded people. The Caravan Club is the perfect example of the type of group you should join. ACSI, Alan Rogers, and ADAC provide great guides for campers and caravanners, ensuring you’re equipped with the knowledge you need for a successful trip.
Get insured
Before you start caravanning around Europe, make sure your insurance policy covers you for the duration of your trip. Some policies only provide cover for a set period of time, so if you’re planning a three month holiday, do your research first. You may need to contact your insurer and extend the number of travel days. Check out Camping and Caravaning Club (Carfree) to get an idea of what insurance could cost you. Having insurance will give you the peace of mind you need before you venture out and explore new surroundings.
- Know the rules and regulations
There are rules and regulations wherever you go. Firstly, make sure you carry the right documentation with you – this includes your driving license, insurance documents, and passports. Secondly, speed limits in European countries can be different to what you’re used to. Familiarise yourself with the country’s limits before you travel. You also need to carry certain equipment when you travel to ensure safety in the event of an accident or a breakdown. In most European countries you’re required to have a first aid kit, warning triangle, spare bulbs and your vehicle registration documents. Some countries will require extra equipment. France, for example, also requires you to have a reflective jacket and a fire extinguisher.
- Plan for the season
Depending on the season, always make sure to book ahead before setting off on your journey. Imagine driving for hours only to find out that the campground you had your eye on is fully booked. Off-season is a great time to go, especially in the Costa Blanca region in Spain, where it’s basically always sunny. The perks of travelling in the low season include reduced prices, emptier campgrounds, shorter queues at tourist attractions, and less traffic on the highways.
- Top destinations
Where you ‘should’ go depends on the type of holiday you want. Europe has something for everyone – from endless coastlines to lush countrysides and history-rich towns. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain are the most popular destinations for caravanners. Campsites in Belgium are the perfect base from which to explore cities like Bruges and Brussels, the Netherlands is a haven for cyclists, and Spain offers the best of both worlds.
If you’re thinking about caravanning around Europe for your next holiday, you won’t be disappointed – especially if you’re headed towards the sunny Costa Blanca. Marjal Costa Blanca Camping & Resort is a great destination for caravan campers, with modern facilities that you’ll love. It’s the perfect base to enjoy the warm Mediterranean weather, beautiful beaches, stunning natural scenery, and amazing restaurants.
